Everything people ask about Project GRIOT.

GRIOT is being built to bring 10 million Africans into crypto and Web3 safely, and to certify 5 million of them as Natives — people who passed an assessment, with a proof anyone can check.

GRIOT passes down and preserves knowledge about four things: Web3, blockchain, crypto and AI. We start with Web3, and crypto is only the first step.

$GRIOT is the fair-launch community token of the GRIOT ecosystem, on BNB Smart Chain. It stands behind Project GRIOT, shares 10% of every trade’s tax with holders of 100,000+ $GRIOT in BNB, burns another 10% on every trade, and is intended to reward the people who teach and contribute — that last part is planned, not built.

You never need $GRIOT, a wallet or an account to learn, to sit the assessment, or to hold a certificate. Everything about the token — its contract, rewards and on-chain facts — is on its own page at griots.io/token.

Griots are the keepers of history, memory and knowledge in West African tradition — people who carried what a community knew from one generation to the next.

GRIOT takes one principle from that tradition: knowledge survives when someone can still pass it on. It does not claim to represent, own or replace the tradition itself.

GRIOT is deliberately not built around one person. It is run by a volunteer community, organised into public roles — teachers, verifiers, translators, moderators and others — that anyone can apply for.

No investor, company or backer stands behind the project, and GRIOT is not a DAO and has no governance mechanism.

No. GRIOT is being built. The community token that supports it is live, and its on-chain facts are on the token page, checkable today.

The lessons, the assessment, the certificates and the archive are in development. Nobody has been certified yet, and no opening date has been set.

Someone who passed the Native assessment. Not a follower, a group member or a token holder.

A Native holds a certificate recording which version of the assessment they passed, their score and the date, and anyone can check it.

Nothing, and that will not change. The lessons, the assessment and the certificate are all free. No teacher may ever charge a learner.

Because crypto is where people lose money first. Keys, scams, fake addresses and wrong networks cost people real money every week, and none of the later steps are safe without that floor.

Crypto is step one of four. After it come Web3 (what it lets you own and do), blockchain (how it actually works, and how to build on it) and AI (the next frontier, and the next set of scams).

The Web3 track continues into wallets as identity, using apps and signing safely, DeFi and its risks, digital ownership, and communities that run on-chain. Then blockchain — how chains agree, smart contracts, what audits prove — and then AI: using AI tools well, spotting deepfakes and AI scams, and where AI meets blockchain.

Those later steps are planned, not written yet.

Step one is seven crypto lessons built around the ways people actually lose money: what a blockchain is and is not, keeping your keys safe, how scams are really run, verifying before you trust, moving money in and out, cost and risk, and the law where you live.

There is no trading course. Nobody will teach you how to trade or tell you what to buy.

No. You need a phone. The lessons are made to work on mobile data, and nothing in them requires you to own or buy anything.

English first, then Nigerian Pidgin and Twi, followed by Yoruba, Hausa, Swahili and French. Each lesson ships in English, Pidgin and Twi before the next one starts.

Not yet. The lessons and assessment are being written. The first certificates will be issued by hand, at in-person sessions, before anything runs online.

The deck and the sample questions on the home page are practice only — playing them certifies nobody. Deck progress is saved on your device, and to your account only if you choose to sign in.

The deck is a free card game at griots.io/play: 500 cards in 50 levels of ten, across the four steps of the path — crypto first, then Web3, blockchain and AI. Each card is timed, and every answer explains why. Get 7 of 10 right to unlock the next level; Web3 opens after five crypto levels, blockchain after five Web3 levels, and AI after three blockchain levels.

Your progress saves after every answer, so if you leave halfway through a level you carry on from the same card next time. Without signing in it stays in your browser on this device, and nothing is sent to us.

Signing in is optional. With just your email (no password, no wallet) your progress is saved to your account on any phone, and you get a profile page, badges and a place on the leaderboard. We store your email, your chosen handle and name, and your game scores — nothing else, and your email is never shown to anyone.

Browsers inside apps like X, TikTok and Telegram often forget saved data. Open griots.io/play in Chrome or Safari, or tap "Copy my progress link" (or send it to yourself on WhatsApp) — opening that link on any phone or browser brings your progress back.

You can challenge friends: after a level, add a nickname or X handle (optional) and share. Your link shows your score, and whoever opens it plays the same level to beat it — then can send their own challenge back.

It is a game for learning, not the Native assessment. A deck score, a challenge or a progress code proves nothing about anyone.

That a person passed a specific version of the assessment on a specific date, that the record has not been changed since, and who taught them when a teacher was named.

It does not prove they are safe from scams, qualified to give financial advice, or who they are. GRIOT does not verify identity.

No. Only a fingerprint of the certificate is anchored on-chain — never a name, phone number, email or photo. Anyone can check a certificate is genuine without seeing who holds it.

If you sign in to the deck, your email is kept in our player database (never on-chain, never public) so you can sign in again. Your profile shows only the handle and name you choose, your levels and your badges.

Anyone can learn the safety lessons. Anything that touches buying or holding tokens is for adults only.

Get certified first — every teacher is a Native. Then take the session kit and run a session. When five people you taught certify and name you, you become a Native Teacher.

The session kit is still being written. You can apply for a role now at griots.io/apply.

The roles are voluntary. Any future rewards for teaching would come only from funded pools, only for teaching that can be verified, and would be announced after the fact, never promised in advance. No such pool exists today.

A teacher may never charge a learner.

A named person in a named place running sessions on a schedule — on a campus, in a market association, a church or mosque, a youth group or a workshop.

Teaching and knowledge roles such as Record Keeper, Verifier, Steward and Translator, and community roles such as Village Guide, Griot Sentinel (scam watch) and Keeper of the Purse. All are voluntary.

Assume it is a scam. GRIOT admins never message first, never ask for your recovery phrase, and never ask you to send funds or connect your wallet to a site.

Never. Nobody legitimate will ever ask for it. Anyone who has it can empty your wallet in seconds, and no one can reverse it.

Rules differ by country and change often. Check the current position with your own regulator. "Banned" and "unregulated" are not the same thing, and neither means there are no consequences.
